The Airport Operator Stock Index as of 2 October 2020

Created by Airport Insights, the Airport Operator Stock Index is a customized market capitalization-weighted stock market index that tracks the performance of 26 airport operators listed in stock exchanges all over the world.

It tracks the total market capitalization of this group of airport operators on a weekly basis, with the 31 July 2020 being the base date and containing a value of 100 derived from the weighted average market capitalization as of the base date.

Over the past week, the Index moved up by 1.0 points to reach 107.1 points at the close of 2 Oct 2020. Compared to the start of the Index on 31 July 2020, the Index has increased by 7.1 points.

The majority (19) of airport operators saw positive growth in their market capitalization in the week ending on 2 Oct 2020 compared to the previous week.

The top performer for the week was Hainan Meilan International Airport Company, which saw its market capitalization grow by 8.1% over the past week.

Analyzing the growth in market capitalization from the start of the Airport Operator Stock Index on 31 July 2020 , Airports Corporation of Vietnam stock showed the highest growth in its market capitalization at 27.3%.

Highlights of the week ending on 2 Oct 2020:

Zurich Airport International AG, the concessionaire selected for developing the international airport at Jewar in India, and the special purpose vehicle (SPV) Yamuna International Airport Private Limited are set to sign a concession agreement in the second week of October, according to officials from Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL).

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport started a third phase of expansion on 27 Sept 2020. The extension, which includes a fourth and fifth runway, a third terminal covering 422,000 square metres (4.5 million square feet) and 190 parking aprons, is expected to be finished in 2022.

China announced that it would hasten the building of a modern and comprehensive transport system in the southern island province of Hainan.By 2025, Hainan will have five civilian airports and establish a comprehensive system with Haikou Meilan International Airport, Sanya Phoenix International Airport and Qionghai Boao International Airport as its core and other airports supplementing them, according to a plan released by the National Development and Reform Commission.
